Doctrinal Statement:

We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His substitutionary work on the cross, in His bodily resurrection from the dead, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe that man’s only hope of redemption is through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, accomplished through the regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, those who are saved unto the resurrection of life and those who are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Most of the older children receiving placement are healthy but considered special needs because older children are harder to place in adoption.

Agricultural:

Description:

Sustainable Agriculture We have been given land by a nearby village to address the short growing season and food shortage crisis. Agriculture experts and University students, studying agriculture and engineering, are recruited to seek and find solutions for growing food all year round. Aquaponics has already been tested and we have a working model. Other growing methods, like hydroponics and aeroponics, are just a few techniques that will be explored. Once solutions are found, national teams of evangelists will be taught how to duplicate these farming methods and train local Burkinabe, which will bring both food and the Gospel into villages.

Social Justice:

Description:

Young widows or women abandoned by their husbands find themselves homeless and without family support. This 9-month residential program equips women with skills such as sewing, traditional weaving, soap making, jewelry making, bread making, crocheting and crafting- handwoven goods. Each day begins with devotions, and our instructors not only teach, but mentor these women. Afternoon classes include a literacy class, basic math class, basic French language class and Bible Study. Each participant must develop a personal budget and a small business plan for the skills they have mastered. After graduating and moving back to the village there is a 6-month follow-up program. Our hope is that once these women go back to the village, they too will become disciples and trainers to other women in need. The Orphanage was dedicated in 2004 and has been in operation since. It is located on community-donated land on the outskirts of the village. The number of children at the orphanage varies between 40 and 60, their ages ranging from newborn through high school. Child sponsorship reaches the most vulnerable children by giving them the opportunity to be educated, learn about God’s love and grow up healthy…All things critical in helping children escape extreme poverty. Sponsorship provides the children with school fees and supplies, a daily meal at school or a semi-annual food and goods distribution, and basic medical care. Sponsors give $35 per month which allows us to provide on-going support to the child they have selected. We hold weekly bible clubs in village churches close to sponsored children's homes to ensure they receive the gospel. Foster Care – In 2015, through Sheltering Wings, God brought our family to an important regional city in Burkina Faso where there is inadequate orphan care for children under the age of seven. The Lord provided the Matheny family with a vision to equip the local church to answerdr-scott-rez the cry for orphan care. In a very short time, we found local government and church leaders to support this family-based type of orphan care, similar to our Foster Care system in the U.S. Though it is provided the Matheny family with a vision to equip the local church to answer the cry for orphan care. In a very short time, we found local government and church leaders to support this family-based type of orphan care, similar to our Foster Care system in the U.S. Though it is counter-cultural, our family’s living testimony of love and adoption of a Burkinabe boy has inspired other Burkinabe Christians to care for vulnerable children as their own. By God’s grace there are now five African families caring for orphans in their homes. In a predominantly Muslim community, this Christ-centered ministry communicates the Gospel by doing for vulnerable children what our Father has done for us. Please join us in praying for even more local Burkinabe Christian families to open their homes to care for orphans and vulnerable kids. Prayerfully consider partnering with a Burkinabe family in this work, empowering the Church to be the solution to the orphan care need.
