Cookson Hills Christian Ministries
Cookson Hills Ministries
Organization Description & Goals:
In 1957 we opened our doors and hearts to kids in need of stability and love. What began as a single home and a staff of four, is now a beautiful estate with nine homes, a staff of 65, an ACSI accredited, private Christian school, rec center, grocery store, and horse stables. Over the years, our responsibilities have grown, but the mission remains the same: to provide home, school, and therapy for kids who are at-risk. We partner with families to give kids love, education, and healing in a beautiful setting. Each member of our team works to give children the best chance to live a mature life. We exhaust every option to give them the best opportunity possible.
Purpose & Mission Statement:
Our mission at Cookson Hills is to provide home, school, and therapy for kids who are at-risk. Life at Cookson Hills is designed to help kids take responsibility for themselves both now and in the long-run. To successfully achieve our mission, we take into account every part of a kid’s world while they are with us. We develop a personalized Plan of Care for each child, which considers their physical, spiritual, educational, and emotional needs.
Cookson Hills Christian School, Inc. Statement of Faith Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God, who died for our sins and arose from the dead. (I Corinthians 15:1-8, John 3:16) The Bible is the inspired word of God – a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.(II Timothy 3:16, Psalm 119:105) All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, yet every person has worth as a part of God’s creation. (Romans 3:23) Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Christ as their Lord and Savior. (John 3:16) Those accepting Christ should repent of their sin, confess their faith, and be baptized into Him. (Romans 10:9, Act 2:38) The Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and exists to evangelize the lost and edify the saved. (Ephesians 4:1-16) Jesus Christ will one day return to earth and reign forever as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (I Thessalonians 4:13-18)
Unique Services & Resources
Provided Services & Resources:
We are a licensed residential childcare facility located in Northeast Oklahoma. We accept children from all across the United States. Children and families are referred to Cookson Hills by family members, clergy, school personnel, and other agencies. If the child requires services not provided by Cookson Hills, the child or family is referred to appropriate agencies for placement and/or services. Examples of what brings kids to Cookson Hills: • At risk of school expulsion or dropping out of school • Family conflict • Poor behavior choices • Poor peer group • Experimenting with drug and alcohol use • Abuse and/or neglect • Homelessness • Some mental health issues (e.g. ADHD, anxiety, and depressive disorders)
Costs of Service or Resource:
We invite families to financially support their child to the degree that they did while the child was living in their home. However, no child is turned away because of a family’s inability to contribute financially. Contributions from the families of children in care is less than 1% of our total costs. Families are expected to: • Provide medical insurance that works in Oklahoma • Pay for counseling services each month • Maintain a special account with Cookson for child’s basic needs (i.e. haircut, hygiene)
